Amazon is putting another roughly €16 billion into Germany for 2027, extending a run of investment that has already surpassed €100 billion in the country since 2010 and reinforcing Germany's status as one of the company's most important markets outside the United States.

The new spending spans logistics, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, underscoring how Amazon's German footprint has grown well beyond its original warehouse-and-delivery business into something closer to a full-scale technology and infrastructure operation.

## Warehouses and Jobs on the Ground

On the physical side, Amazon now operates more than 100 sites across all 16 of Germany's federal states, a network that has supported over 40,000 permanent jobs. The company is adding new fulfillment centers in Zweibrücken and in Könnern, Saxony-Anhalt, while modernizing existing sites in Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, moves expected to create roughly 3,000 new logistics jobs.

## A Bigger Bet on Cloud and AI

Of the 2027 investment, about €4.8 billion is earmarked specifically for cloud and AI infrastructure, building on the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) region Amazon launched back in 2014. The company is also pouring roughly €7.8 billion through 2040 into its AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a data-residency-focused offering that became available in Brandenburg at the start of this year, aimed at customers who need their data to stay within European jurisdiction.

A new robotics and AI research lab in Berlin adds another layer to that push, positioning the city alongside Amazon's other research hubs as the company leans further into automation and machine learning across its logistics and cloud businesses alike.

## Small Businesses and the Green Ledger

Amazon is also pointing to its role as a sales channel for German small and medium-sized businesses, which the company says accounted for more than 60 percent of its store sales and generated around €20 billion in revenue on its platform in 2025, including nearly €5.9 billion from exports reaching customers abroad.

On sustainability, the company says it has enabled 1.3 gigawatts of combined renewable energy capacity in Germany and deployed more than 4,500 electric delivery vehicles, backed by roughly €400 million invested in electrifying its transportation fleet, alongside a water-positive program it says is about three-quarters of the way to its 2030 target.

## Why It Matters

The scale of Amazon's renewed commitment lands at a moment when Germany is trying to shore up its reputation as an attractive home for large-scale foreign investment amid a sluggish broader economy. A company doubling down this heavily on German warehouses, sovereign cloud infrastructure and AI research sends a signal other investors are likely to notice, even as questions remain about how much of that spending translates into broad-based economic benefit versus consolidating Amazon's own dominance in German e-commerce and cloud services.
