The Pierre, one of the enduring landmarks of Manhattan luxury, is trying to prove that a nearly hundred year old hotel can still surprise. The property, run today as The Pierre, A Taj Hotel New York, is weaving together fine art, live jazz and an ambitious new Mediterranean kitchen into a single cultural offering, an attempt to be less a place to sleep than a destination in its own right for travellers, art lovers and the city's own residents.

Much of that ambition is concentrated in Two E Bar and Lounge, the hotel's Upper East Side room, where rotating contemporary art now shares the space with live music and handcrafted cocktails. The setting is deliberately residential in feel, a salon rather than a hotel bar, and it has become the stage on which The Pierre is rehearsing its next act.

## A gallery in the lounge

Through September 2026 the walls of Two E carry FLORES, a solo show by the German-American fine art photographer Hilda Champion. Her images study flowers as they shift beneath water, turning familiar blooms into dreamlike compositions that hover between nature, abstraction and imagination. The effect is meant to unsettle the eye gently, to make the viewer look again.

Staged in partnership with ATP.art, the exhibition asks guests to treat photography as more than a record of what was in front of the lens. Champion's work, shaped over decades of practice across Europe and the Americas and recognised through numerous awards and gallery shows, leans into movement, light and form as subjects in their own right.

Rotating contemporary art now sits alongside cocktails and conversation in the lounge.

## The return of live jazz

Alongside the art, the music has come back. Through a partnership with Modern Martinis Music, The Pierre has revived a programme of live performance at Two E, drawing some of New York's most accomplished jazz players into an intimate room. The nightly line-up moves between vocalists, pianists and visiting international artists, and it leans on the kind of hushed elegance the hotel has long traded on.

The pairing is the point. Classic standards and contemporary interpretations play against a backdrop of low light and careful service, and the result is an evening built around atmosphere rather than spectacle. It is a version of glamour that feels closer to a private club than a concert hall.

Murano chandeliers and deep velvet set the tone for the lounge's nightly performances.

## A new Mediterranean chapter at Perrine

The most substantial change arrives in the kitchen. From September 1, 2026, the hotel's signature restaurant, Perrine, is being reborn as what The Pierre describes as a Mediterranean culinary atelier, a shift meant to be immersive rather than cosmetic. The cooking is led by Executive Chef Vincenzo Garofalo working with the Michelin starred chef Jeffrey Vella.

Their menu roams the Mediterranean coastline, drawing on Provence, Liguria, the Greek Isles and the Adriatic, and aiming for food that is refined without being forbidding. The reinvented room is designed as a full sensory experience, from lighting and aromas to curated music, handcrafted tableware and tableside rituals, all built around seasonal ingredients.

Signature touches run to bespoke cocktail presentations, champagne rituals, artisanal pasta, seafood finished at the table and Mediterranean desserts, served under a hospitality philosophy the hotel traces back across nearly a century of practice.

## Nearly a century on Central Park

The reinvention rests on deep foundations. Since it opened its doors in 1930, The Pierre has been one of New York's most celebrated hotels, a fixture for visiting dignitaries, executives and celebrities drawn to its particular brand of timeless elegance. Its position overlooking Central Park has kept it at the centre of the city's social map for generations.

Today the hotel counts 189 guestrooms and suites, along with event spaces that include the Grand Ballroom, the Cotillion Room and the Rotunda. By layering art, music and a new culinary identity onto that heritage, The Pierre is making a wager that has become central to luxury hospitality, that history is only an asset if it keeps evolving.

As high end travel tilts toward immersive cultural experiences rather than simple comfort, the hotel is positioning itself at the front of that shift, offering guests art, music and gastronomy under one storied roof.
