René Barbera, Florian Sempey and Alisa Medvedeva perform with the Filharmonie Brno under Maestro Arkady Beryn on 2 November 2026.

BERLIN — On Monday, 2 November 2026, the Großer Saal of the Philharmonie Berlin will host the Operngala-Nacht, bringing together three internationally established opera singers with the Filharmonie Brno under the direction of Maestro Arkady Beryn.

The evening will feature American tenor René Barbera, French baritone Florian Sempey and soprano Alisa Medvedeva. Each arrives in Berlin with an international career spanning major opera houses, concert halls and festivals.

René Barbera became the first singer to win all three top prizes at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia competition in 2011. He has since appeared at leading opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Opéra national de Paris, the Vienna State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera.

Florian Sempey has established himself on major European stages and is particularly associated with the role of Figaro in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. His appearances include the Opéra national de Paris, the Royal Opera House in London and the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. In 2022, he was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Soprano Alisa Medvedeva, a graduate of the Saint Petersburg Conservatoire, has performed internationally at venues including Dubai Opera, Wiener Stadthalle and Mozarthaus Vienna, with further appearances in Paris, Monaco, Porto Cervo, St. Moritz and Bucharest. She has shared the stage with artists including Andrea Bocelli, Il Divo, Vittorio Grigolo and Luca Salsi.

The three soloists will perform with the Filharmonie Brno, one of the Czech Republic’s principal orchestras. Founded in 1956, the ensemble has built an extensive international presence through concerts, tours and festival appearances.

At the podium will be Maestro Prof. Arkady Beryn, a conductor with more than forty years of professional experience. From 2003 to 2011 he was Chief Conductor of the Internationale Symphoniker Deutschland, and he has since worked with orchestras including the Berliner Symphoniker, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He has conducted in the Philharmonie Berlin, the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and has appeared with artists such as Aida Garifullina, Roberto Alagna and José Carreras. The German press summed up one of his concerts with the headline “Dirigent Beryn ist der Star” – conductor Beryn is the star.

The programme combines some of opera’s best-known arias and duets with overtures, intermezzi and orchestral works. Music by Mozart, Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Bizet, Bellini, Donizetti and Tchaikovsky will be heard throughout the evening, with the three soloists appearing both individually and together.

The gala takes place in the Philharmonie Berlin’s Großer Saal. Designed by Hans Scharoun and opened in 1963, the hall is home to the Berliner Philharmoniker and remains one of Berlin’s most recognisable cultural landmarks.

The Operngala-Nacht begins at 20:00 on Monday, 2 November 2026, at the Philharmonie Berlin. Tickets start at €26.50.
